Well, two things are clearly true. Number one: Ben likes to cause trouble. Number two: Ben knows what trouble IS, and chooses to misbehave anyway. Obviously, we pick our battles and let this cheerios fiasco remain in the ’secretly amusing’ category.

Ben and I have been enjoying the cooler weather. We even had a day of wearing sweaters! We tired of walking around the house, left the yard, went down the street, turned the corner…the next thing we knew we had walked a mile to the Mopac pedestrian bridge! Of course, we stopped along the way – at every tree and bush, smelled the pretty flowers, threw some rocks, and found this slide as well. Fall is fantastic in Austin.

Well, much to my surprise there are a few videos I have yet to upload from this past week. This is one of Ben’s new expressions…I’ll give you one guess where he learned it.

Well, it’s official. Not only does Ben understand commands, but he imitates me like a champ…so well, in fact, that I’m actually willing to appear in the video.
I think I’m almost caught up on videos now. Perhaps I’ll actually submit a real post soon as well. Stay tuned.

We’re working on Ben’s party tricks.

Short but sweet. Ben just beginning to perform on command…

More fun with Ben’s best bud, Jack. The boys really play together now – Ben mostly follows Jack around and imitates him, unless of course, the two scheme together to cause a little mischief.

October is finally at its best in Austin. We had a ton of rain last week, the plants and trees have a wonderful new life to them, and now so do we. Our weekend started out with a fun time at a new (to us) park in Austin. Jack showed us around the place.
On Saturday we hung around outside all day. Dad has started a new project for an awesome magnetic ball wall-course thing (stay tuned for progress) for the deck, now that the weather has turned a little cool for the pool. I tore up the front yard and finally dug up (read: Stephan stepped in with his pickaxe and showed those roots who’s boss) some bad plants that have been mocking me for over a year now. Ben helped by taking a solid nap and then helping sort some rocks on the porch. More on the garden once the new plants go in, but here’s a shot of the real reason you’re reading this anyway:
Sunday started off with a failed attempt at brunch. Poached eggs and fried rice quickly turned into toast with jam for both Ben and Dad. Mom ate one of the eggs, but no one touched the rice. To be fair, it was mostly composed of stuff that had been lingering in the vegetable drawer for too long, had very little rice, and lacked the whole “fried” aspect. We went off to Dad’s flag football game and ran around at the fields while Dad intercepted passes left and right and scored lots of touchdowns (we only saw one but for the sake of the written history, we’ll assume what we saw was a typical play). After leaving the fields the subject of lots of teasing (from our awesome friends who were just going home to sit on their couches and talk about how awesome they were the night before), we headed south to the wildflower center to see the butterfly gardens and buy some plants for the garden. It was a disappointing trip (they were sold out of the stuff we wanted and the tree we were going to get was way too small), but we did get a good shot of Ben in the car after the football game.
Off to bed with our sun-kissed cheeks and sweet dreams of the yuccas we never found.
